The Do South Shop loves a bright idea, especially one nurtured within beautiful design. So it’s no surprise that we have partnered with Tala lighting to convey their message: ‘conversation through beauty.’
Where Do South and Tala both come together is the way in which both entities strive for sustainable solutions to domestic issues. Nearly all of our items sold in store are either ethically sourced or are created to be sustainable. Tala lighting is 90% more energy efficient and lasts fifteen times longer than its incandescent counterparts. Very much like Tala, when you invest in an item from our store you are investing in the ethos of that brand. When that brand is ethically inclined, you can then sleep a lot easier at night. At least you will be in the know that you are doing your bit, even if it’s as simple as a lightbulb, because the world’s problems can sometimes be solved with the most simplest of ideas.
Tala’s investment in its production stems so far that for every 200 units sold, they plant 10 oak trees. This is to both decrease their carbon footprint and to articulate ‘responsible entrepreneurship’. In addition to this strong ethical message they also partner with the charity Heart Of England Forest (HoEF) who plant, protect and nurture a large broadleaf forest within the middle of England. Replacing incandescent lighting means that each of Tala’s bulbs prevents one tonne of CO2 from being discharged into the atmosphere.
While Tala continually looks to improve its products and their impact on the world, they also have you, the common homeowner, in mind. Tala’s utilisation of LEDs means they use ten times less electricity than incandescents and last for as long as 10 years. This means much smaller electricity bills for you at home as well as a significant reduction in replacing bulbs. This makes it an easy choice when thinking of replacing lighting in your home and which better outlet to get them from than The Do South Shop?
Here are two examples that are in The Do South Shop right now!
OAK KNUCKLE PENDANT
Hanging naked bulbs seems to be on trend in the here and now with different restaurants and bars employing this aesthetic to articulate a back to basics ethos. This particular Tala bulb is perhaps our favourite with the authentic solid brass edging concealing the pure American Oak knuckle. This allows a versatility that can be used in every aspect of your interior plans. The silicon chord is designed in such a way that avoids kinks. If you are thinking of a minimalist style, then Tala bulbs are perhaps the perfect example.

What is interesting about Tala Bulbs is their filament patterns. This particular bulb has a criss-cross effect that distributes a warm glow of light in an idiosyncratic pattern to accentuate any space they occupy. They are built with Tala’s individual Golden Sapphire Technology and are suitable for most modern light fittings. Again the sustainability element of Tala means this lightbulb has the average lifespan of 20,000 hours.
